AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

PROJECT

F&B and Retail Strategy; 2010-2014.

TASK

Create a F&B and Retail strategy considering the following factors:

  • Increased student accommodation.
  • New buildings.
  • Poor customer retail satisfaction levels.

OUTCOME

Brain & Poulter’s strategic analysis identified that:
  • The topography and size of campus required a ‘precincting’ strategy to increase retail accessibility.
  • An opportunity to use retail to create a ‘heart’ of the campus.
  • Opportunities for retail to integrate The University with the Canberra CBD for better permeability.

The strategy also made recommendations on how to realign the tenancy mix and attract a better breed of operators by offering a retail plan that was more focused on the faculty and researchers who made up almost 50% of the campus population.
