THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY

PROJECT

B&P was invited to masterplan The University of Sydney retail and F&B twice (2003 and 2013).

TASK

  • Develop a 3-tier retail strategy to increase variety and better cope with fluctuating demands.

OUTCOME

Our strategy increased the average spend per head by 28%, consolidated retail into two main hubs on the major circulation nodes and broadened the offering within those hubs.

An important point about these masterplans it that they were jointly funded by The University and the two key retail providers on campus (Student Union and Sports Union).

Not all the feedback on the campus benefited all of these stakeholders. However, our logical and robust analysis made sense to each party. This enabled positive and progressive collaboration for the good of the entire campus.

As a result, The University now enjoys one of the highest levels of engagement in F&B by the campus population. It also has the second highest spends per head on F&B in any Australian University.
