SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK AUTHORITY

PROJECT

Redevelopment of Sydney Olympic Park Authority Venues

TASK

Included in the management tasks undertaken by SOPA is the direct management and operation of 5 of the Parks venues (Aquatic Centre, Sports Centre, Hockey Centre, Athletics Centre and Sports Hall of Fame). The venues use a variety of operators with varying degrees of income levels, operator investment and customer satisfaction.
With several leases and management agreements coming up for expiring, SOPA took the opportunity to engage B&P to:

  • Review and benchmark current performance
  • Consider off venue food trends that may have applicability
  • Investigate alternative/additional revenue potentials for additional F&B
  • Advise on other optimal F&B concepts to drive better customer satisfaction, spends and rental income
  • Assess and recommend how to package F&B to attract higher calibre operators

OUTCOME

The specific innovations B&P developed for the SOPA venue strategy are:

  • Clarity on the influence each potential user group has on each venue and the optimal F&B response to achieve maximum engagement with the F&B offerings
  • A matrix to determine which venues could sustain what amount of fixed and/or pop up outlets depending on visitation numbers and demographic profile
  • Strategies to attract better calibre operators to deliver food concepts previously not available in venue catering
  • Improved key commercial terms and management tools to encourage investment and continuous improvement
